Thank you to all who donated funds and books for Cross Country’s Wildcats for Literacy used book drive. Members of the cross country team delivered the books to Allendale Elementary School on December 19. Our volunteers ate dinner with the children, read to them, played a fun game of Holiday Bingo, did a word search activity, and colored with the children. Cross Country’s book drive collected 703 used books, and the team raised $1,146, which was used to purchase 341 new books through the non-profit organization First Book. At the end of the evening, each child at Allendale went home with one brand new book and as many used books as they could carry.
If you would like to donate funds for this program, you can put your donation in an envelope and place it in the cross country mailbox in the main office at Arvada West. We accept checks made payable to First Book. First Book has been awarded four stars – the highest possible rating – by Charity Navigator, the nation’s premier charity evaluator. First Book is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization – all donations to First Book through our Wildcats for Literacy program are tax-deductible.
