With a league title on the line, A-West travelled to Pomona HS this afternoon and pulled off their 4th straight run-rule victory… and officially earned the 2017 Jeffco League Championship title!
The Cats got on the board in the top of the first, when a Morgan Clausen sacrifice fly ball would bring Shelby Robb home to score. Pomona responded in the second, bringing home a run to tie the game at 1-1. The Wildcats scored another run in the 3rd inning, to take the 2-1 lead.
The 5th inning proved to be the difference maker, in an otherwise tight back and forth match up. Mo Winters would lead off with a single, followed by Shelby Robb reaching safely on an infield error. Kailey Robb then blasted a huge 3-run homerun over the right field fence to put the Cats up 5-1, and A-West never looked back! Christaana Angelopulos would follow Robb’s blast with a towering solo shot of her own, over the centerfield fence! Shea Mauser would single and then Savannah Clausen belted a double to right center. Walks drawn by Emma Novotny and Mo Winters would load the bases and force another run home, before Shelby Robb would come thru with an RBI single to put the Cats up 8-0. Kailey Robb would then come to the plate for the second time in the inning and would draw a bases loaded walk, and another AW run would score. Angelopulos, in her second plate appearance of the inning would hit the centerfield fence, with a 2-run double. Morgan Clausen then followed with a 2-run single to put the Wildcats up 13-1! A-West would bring 14 Wildcat hitters to the plate that inning, collecting 8 hits and scoring 11 Wildcat runs!
The Cats would shut Pomona down in the bottom of the 5th, ending the game on a beautiful 1-6-3 double play!
The Wildcats finish out the regular season tomorrow afternoon as they host Dakota Ridge at 4:30pm. We will also be celebrating our seniors prior to the start of the game.
The Wildcats finally got back out on the field this afternoon down at Columbine HS, after rain has forced schedule changes for the past week and a half. The Cats didn’t seem to miss a beat, as they would go on to defeat Columbine 15-6! Stacia Raley would lead the charge, going 3-for-4 with a double and 3 RBI! Alexis Folks would collect two singles, 2 RBI, a stolen base, and would score 3 times herself. Maddie Stelley was 1-for-2 with a triple and 2 RBI. Chieko Link would have two stolen bases and score 4 times for the Cats. Andee Woehr-Brantley would pick up the win for A-West, scattering 5 hits and striking out 7 Rebels hitters.
