The A-West varsity team travelled to Broomfield this afternoon to take on #2 ranked Legacy HS in a tough, non-conference match up! The Cats got on the board first in the 1st inning, when Christaana Angelopulos drew a two out walk, moved around to 3rd base on a single by Morgan Clausen and then came home on a Savannah Clausen hit.
Both teams remained scoreless for the next 5 innings. Legacy threatened and got runners on in the first, third and fourth innings, but big defensive plays for the Cats and strong pitching from Shea Mauser held off the threat. In the 6th inning, Shelby Robb led off with a huge triple. Morgan Clausen came thru with an RBI single to give the Cats the 2-0 lead. A Shea Mauser single would bring Clausen around to score and Gianna Haley would come thru with an RBI single of her own to put A-West up 4-0.
In the bottom of the 7th inning, Legacy would get a pair of 1-out singles, followed by a Cat error to load the bases. Mauser got a big strike out to get the second out of the inning. The final batter pops the ball up into the infield, between the pitcher’s mound and first base when Morgan Clausen made an incredible game ending, diving catch with bases loaded to secure the win for A-West! It was such an exciting way to end the game!
Morgan Clausen finished the day going 2-for-4 with a run scored and an RBI. Shelby Robb was also 2-for-4 with a triple and a run scored. Gianna Haley was 2-for-3 with a pair of singles and an RBI. Shea Mauser earned the shut-out win for the Cats, scattering 8 singles over 7 innings and striking out 10 Legacy hitters! The Wildcats are now 6-3 on the season
