All three Wildcat softball teams came away victorious Monday night, as the Varsity and JV beat Kennedy HS @ A-West, and the Level 3 team earned a victory on the road at Bear Creek!
**For the varsity- We are proud of these girls for coming back strong after dropping two games on Saturday, at MSU-Denver… The Cats fell 3-1 to #1 ranked Valor Christian in a playoff feel, intense game! A-West struggled to get things going offensively until late in the game, when Morgan Clausen belted a double to lead off the 7th, and then scored the Cat’s only run on a beautifully placed bunt by Emma Novotny. Shea Mauser held her own in strong pitcher’s duel vs Valor’s ace. Mauser finished the day allowing just 3 runs (1 earned) and striking out 9 Valor hitters!
Game 2 against a strong, #5 ranked Erie HS wasn’t the performance the team had hoped for as they fell 6-2 to end the weekend. Savannah Clausen had two singles and some aggressive base running to spark the Cats. Shelby Robb was 3-for-4 with a triple. Morgan Clausen battled on the mound, but some defensive errors by the Cats, and timely hitting by Erie secured the win for the Tigers.
For Varsity- Kennedy came out swinging and jumped on the board right away in the top of the first inning. Luckily, the Wildcat hitters responded quickly- batting thru the lineup in the bottom of the 1st, to take back the 4-1 lead. It was all Arvada West offense after that as the Cats powered thru the 2nd inning, scoring 11 runs on 9 hits, while sending 16 hitters to plate that inning. A-West went on to beat Kennedy HS 17-2, in a run-rule shortened contest. Shelby Robb led the charge offensively, going an impressive 4-for-4, collecting two singles and blasting two monstrous triples in the game. She also scored all 4 times she got on base. Robb continues to be an extremely tough out recently… collecting 8 hits in her last 9 at-bats! Christaana Angelopulos also kept on her hot streak as well, going 3-for-3 with a pair of singles and blasting a 3-run “in the park” homerun in the 2nd. She finished the day with 5 RBIs and two runs scored! BrittanyAnn Dowell also had a clutch, bases clearing double in the 2nd, as well as an RBI sac fly as she went on to drive in 4 RBIs for the Cats! In the circle, Shea Mauser faced just 16 Kennedy hitters, allowing only 2 hits and 2 runs, while striking out 8 Commander hitters! NEXT UP for the Cats- Erie Tournament of Champions: Thursday- 4:00pm vs Legend, 8:00pm vs Frederick. Friday- 12:00pm vs Grove, OK and 2:00pm vs Broken Arrow, OK.
The JV softball team had an offensive slug-fest of their own, as they easily dominated Kennedy HS 16-1! The Cats scored 8 runs in the top of the first inning. Alexis Folks showed her patience at the plate, as well as her speed on the bases, as she went 2-for-2, with an “in the park homerun,” two walks, two stolen bases and 3 runs scored. Folks was also solid on defense, making a clutch play deep in the hole at SS to end the inning. Peyton Bowser blasted a triple and drew a walk, as she scored twice. Andee Woehr-Brantley and Maddie Stelley combined for the win, allowing only 1 run and getting out of a couple jams! UP NEXT: The JV Wildcats play again next Thursday, when they travel with the Varsity up to Legacy HS for a 4:30pm game.
The Level 3 softball team travelled to Bear Creek HS and also came away with a big victory… beating the Bears 15-7! Garryn Fulcomer blasted her first ever homerun to spark the Cats. Oci Maestas and Gracey Garcia each collected triples, and Maestas and Lindsey McNeil each hit a double. Sam Tarango had two singles and Aurie Madrid collected a single as well. Sara Kaufmann and Oci Maetas combined in the win for the Cats on the mound, and Kaufman helped herself defensively with a double play. Garryn Fulcomer was tough behind the plate, as she threw a Bear Creek runner out at 3rd trying to steal. UP NEXT- A- West heads to Chatfield at 4:30 to take on the Chargers
