The A-West Softball team improved to 4-1 in Jeffco League play (12-4-1 overall) Saturday, with a big win over Columbine HS, 9-5! The Cats jumped out to an early lead in the bottom of the 1st inning… Kailey Robb got things started with an incredible 14 pitch at bat that ended in lead off single! This sparked the offense and then Brittany Phillips came to the plate with two outs and two runners on base, and she blasted a monstrous homerun into the pine trees in left field to give the Cats the 3-0 lead! Columbine would answer back with two runs of their own to cut the lead, 3-2. But A-West would chip away little by little to secure the win. In the bottom of the 5th with the Cats leading 5-4, Morgan Clausen would lead off with a single, Phillips would then reach first on a hit by pitch and Shea Mauser would help her cause by blasting a double to right field, to drive in both runners, and extend the lead, 7-4! The Cats would also add two more in the bottom of the 6th! In the top of the 7th, Columbine would push one run across, but the Wildcats defense would shut things down to hold on to the 9-5 win! Shea Mauser collected her 11th win of the season in the circle, striking out 6 Rebel hitters in the process!
