The Arvada West softball team collected another Jeffco victory tonight, in a powerful 16-4 win at Lakewood High School. The Cats got on the board in the first inning, when Kailey Robb reached base on a walk, stole second and then was driven home on an RBI single by Morgan Clausen. Lakewood would answer back and tie the game at 1-1 after a Wildcat error. In the third inning for the Cats, Delaney Fletcher would lead off with a single, and then Sara Mitchell blasted her first homerun of the season to left field. Morgan Clausen followed, belting the back-to-back homerun to put the Cats up 4-1. A-West scored 3 more times in the 4th and 5th innings, and twice in the 6th- one of which came from another Clausen solo homerun! Lakewood then capitalized on a rare, 3-Wildcat error inning in the bottom of the 6th to cut the lead to 9-4. However, the Cats slammed the door shut in the top of the 7th, scoring an impressive 7 runs— all with two outs! 12 Wildcat hitters would come to the plate, and huge doubles from Delaney Fletcher, Sara Mitchell and Brittany Phillips would secure the 16-4 victory!
Morgan Clausen went the distance on the mound, scattering just 5 hits over 7 innings of work, and struck out 7 Tiger hitters.
The Wildcats wore light teal ribbons for the game tonight, in support and love for Wildcat pitcher, Morgan and the Clausen family, who received heartbreaking news this week about a young niece/cousin who is battling a brain tumor. Keep fighting Kamryn!! The Wildcats are sending prayers and love your way <3
